本書是法國作家儒勒·凡爾納創(chuàng)作的長篇小說, 是其代表作之一。小說起因于英國紳士福克與朋友打的一個賭: 要在80天內(nèi)環(huán)游地球一周回到倫敦。隨后, 他與仆人克服了路途中的艱難險阻, 路經(jīng)地中海、紅海、印度洋、太平洋、大西洋, 游歷印度、新加坡、日本、美國等地, *后返回倫敦, 一路上福克機(jī)智、勇敢, 表現(xiàn)出十足的紳士派頭。作者在介紹各地的風(fēng)土人情和地理知識的同時, 還以強(qiáng)烈的正義感和人道主義精神, 對各種野蠻、落后、愚昧的社會現(xiàn)狀進(jìn)行了批判和鞭撻。

We'll only take a bag with some clothes. We'll buy clothes on our way. Bring me my raincoat and some good shoes.” Passepartout tried to reply， but couldn't. He made the preparations. Around the world in eightydays! Was his master a fool? No. Was this a joke?They were going to Calais； good! Passepartout had not returned to France for five years. He would be happy to see it again. At eight o'clock Passepartout had packed the bag. Mr. Fogg was ready. Under his arm he had a copy of Bradshaw's Continental Railway Steam Transit and General Guide， which had timetables of steamers and railways. “Have you forgotten anything?” he asked. “Nothing， monsieur.” “Good! Take this bag. Take good care of it， for there are twenty thousand pounds in it.” They took a cab to the railway station. Before they entered the station， a beggar woman with a child approached and asked for some money. Mr. Fogg took the forty pounds he had won at whist， and gave them to the beggar. “Here， my good woman. I'm glad I met you.” ……

儒勒·凡爾納（1828-1905），生于法國南特的一個中產(chǎn)階級家庭，是一位多產(chǎn)的優(yōu)秀科幻作家、劇作家和詩人。其中，使他聞名于世的是他的科幻作家的身份。凡爾納的科幻小說著作頗豐，其中最著名的是他的代表作“三部曲”——《格蘭特船長的兒女》《海底兩萬里》《神秘島》，以及《氣球上的五星期》《地心游記》等。凡爾納被公認(rèn)為“現(xiàn)代科幻小說之父”，他的作品對后世的科幻文學(xué)流派影響頗為深遠(yuǎn)。2005年是凡爾納的百年忌辰，法國將這一年定為“凡爾納年”。
